2012 RIO DE JANEIRO INTERNATIONAL URANIUM FILM FESTIVAL CALL FOR ENTRIES

The second International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro is now open for entries. All lengths and genres accepted and considered : documentary, narrative, experimental, animation and music video. However all films must be about nuclear and radioactive issues ! There is no time limit : The films could be produced between 1900 and 2011 - From Einstein to Fukushima.

The International Uranium Film Festival in Rio de Janeiro is the first annual film festival to highlight nuclear and radioactive issues. It is an independent film festival to present and to stimulate world-wide the production of independent productions, documentaries and movies about the whole nuclear fuel chain from uranium mining to nuclear waste deposits ; about atomic bombs, about the use and risks of radioactivity and radioactive elements in general. The second International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro is scheduled for May/June 2012, when there will be the UN conference "Rio plus 20". Deadline for submissions is January 31, 2012.

There is no Entry Fee.

Visit our website - www.uraniumfilmfestival.org - to download regulations and entry form. See also there our Festival Report 2011 and the tour program of the 2011 Uranium Festival. Until October, we will screen special film selections in further five Brazilian capitals. Screenings are also planned in other countries.

About the Uranium Film Festival

Climate Change, the Peak Oil and the still growing hunger for energy of the modern societies on all continents : At the beginning of the 21th century the world is - like at the beginning of the 19th century - again in the search for a new direction. Is Nuclear Energy the solution for Climate Change and the growing demand for Energy as it is claimed by nuclear industry and scientists like James Lovelock, the author of the Gaia theory ? Windscale (Sellafield), Harrisburg (Three Mile Island), Chernobyl, Goiânia : Radioactive and nuclear power plant accidents happen. Mining companies spreading around the world in search for new uranium deposits. And on the other side concerned citizens and indigenous peoples fighting against uranium mining projects in countries like Australia, India, Niger, Namibia, USA, Canada or Portugal. Are the societies - especially in emerging nuclear power countries like Brazil, China, India or South Africa - prepared to make the right decisions ? Do the people really know what radioactivity, what nuclear power means ?

That is the background of the International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro : The first annual film festival to highlight nuclear and radioactive issues. A film festival to inform especially the Latin American and Portuguese speaking societies and to stimulate world-wide the production of independent documentaries and movies about the whole nuclear fuel chain from uranium mining to nuclear waste deposits ; about atomic bombs and about the use and risks of radioactivity and radioactive elements in general.

The 1st Uranium Film Festival 2011 of Rio de Janeiro in the famous quarter Santa Teresa attracted last May an audience of more than 1000 people, many of them students and teachers. Now we are starting the call for entries for the 2nd International Uranium Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro that will happen May/June 2012.
